Oka ~ Week of November 4

Hope you had a fantastic Halloween, and also remembered to reset your clocks after the time-change.  Heading into this next month, Oka has a number of events and happenings…

Both Friday, November 8 (FVSD Teacher/Staff Training) and Monday, November 11 (Veterans Day) are “No School for Students.”

Early Entry Kindergarten – this starts the season of information sharing for the upcoming class Oka will host, beginning in early 2020.  If your family, or a neighbor/friend have a child who will turn 5 within the next few months, check out the attached flyer to this message below.

Congratulations to the following students who were selected as the Top Red Ribbon Week Poster Contest Winners…              

            1st Place = Natalia Rodriguez – 2nd Grade

            2nd Place = Layna Sarkar – 1st Place

            3rd Place = Hydee Von Deylen – 4th Grade

Also, Oka’s Top Classes in the Positive Pennies campaign were…

            Primary Grades = Mrs. Hubbard / Mrs. Hogan

            Upper Grades = Mrs. Diecidue

Congratulations and Thank You to all of our participants for their creativity, hard work, and effort to promote Making Good Choices, this was a fantastic week that showcased some of the best parts of Oka!

Our Oka Student Leadership is active and busy…They’re continuing their support of Autism Speaks, and are more than half-way to their goal of collecting $1,000.  Students who donate will receive a puzzle piece with their name, displayed on campus for the remainder of this school year. Last Call for Orders: Forms need to be turned into the Oka Office on Monday.  Interested in new Spirit Wear Oka Hats?  Great looking trucker-style hats are $15 each, and available in two color options: Black/White, or Blue/White. 

It’s just a couple of weeks away, but the Oka Movie Night & Silent Auction will be held on Friday, November 15, starting at 5:30 pm.  This free family-friendly event will feature Toy Story 4, and our Oka PTO has been hard at work putting together some outstanding auction baskets that will be available for bidding.

Please check out Grocery Outlet.  Each Oka family has been provided one card that when used, helps return 3% of your total sales back to the Oka PTO.  If you’re shopping at Grocery Outlet, this is a simple way to support Oka!  This deal is in place until August 2020, and can be used during each shopping visit.  If you need an additional card, please stop by the Oka Office, we’ve got a few remaining.  Grocery Outlet is located at: 18920 Brookhurst, in the newly redesigned center at Garfield Avenue, near McDonalds.
