Oka ~ Week of February 10

Hello Oka Wolfpack...

Hope you’re having a great weekend.  As a reminder, this Monday, February 10, there is NO SCHOOL in observance of Abraham Lincoln.  Beyond this week, there is NO SCHOOL on Monday, February 17, in observance of President’s Day.  That same week, on the days of February 19-21, Oka will have three days of a Modified Schedule, for Parent-Teacher Conferences,  with dismissal at either 12:47 or 12:49.

Kindergarten Information

Each year, the month of February begins the process of starting to plan for Kindergarten, in the following school year.  At Oka, we host KINDERGARTEN ROUND-UP on Thursday, February 27 at 8:30 am, on campus.  This informational meeting is for families to learn all about the registration process, hear from teachers, the principal, and get everything needed for their child to have a successful start in kindergarten at Oka, in the Fall of 2020.

In addition to Oka’s Kindergarten Round-Up, Fountain Valley School District hosts two other informational meetings for families on the various programs offered throughout our district.  They are both on Wednesday, February 19, at either 9:00 am or 6:00 pm.  Further information can be found by clicking this link:  https://www.fvsd.us/apps/pages/KinderInfoMeeting

Attendance, Enrollment, & Transfers

Within our local community, there has been quite a bit of recent news about student transfers and attending schools in our district, even when living outside of district boundaries.  To provide further information, you’re encouraged to check out this link : https://www.fvsd.us/apps/pages/transfers

Student Behavior & Discipline Notifications

Oka utilizes a variety of means to support appropriate student behavior.  These include heavily promoting both “The Wolfpack Way” and our “Values in Action” character focuses throughout the school year.  We love recognizing students in various ways for their successes!  However, when student behaviors have a negative impact on the learning environment, Oka uses a “Citation” form to support corrective behavior and communication between home and school.  In addition, Oka has begun utilizing a “Behavior Notification” form, for those behaviors that are even more significant.  Our goal is to promote the positives, however when student behaviors are taking away from a safe and successful learning environment, there will be a level of progressive discipline steps in place.  These are meant to both communicate with individual families as needed, and attempt to correct student behaviors.

Go Gold – Pediatric Cancer Awareness

To support a cause that has directly impacted families within Oka and around our school district, we are again proud to participate supporting this effort in 2020.  On Tuesday, February 18, students and staff are highly encouraged to wear as much gold (or yellow) as possible.  We are also hoping that if each person is able to donate $1 (or more), we can partner with all other schools around our district, and use collected funds to donate toward furthering the amount of research still needed to combat this life-changing challenge, that too many families have to face each year.  Thank you in advance for your support!

Box Tops

Please encourage family, friends, and neighbors to collect and Box Tops…and turn them into Oka.  The Box Tops spring drive is now on, please continue to clip traditional box tops.  If you purchase a product that has a new box top on it, that says scan your receipt, download the Box Tops app, and scan your receipt to earn box tops for Oka Elementary.  If you do not have the app for your smart phone you may write the students name and teacher on the receipt and drop it off in the Box Tops container, located in the Oka Office (receipt is only valid to be scanned for 14 days after your purchase). Check out the attachment for a picture of what to look for with Box Tops…

FVSD Art Show

On Tuesday, March 10, Fountain Valley School District is excited to host the 18th annual Art Show, between 4-7 pm.  This is a great time to experience and celebrate the artistic achievements of students around our district, but for now, mark it on your calendar.  Also, there is a that students can enter, and your child is encouraged to submit an entry!  Check out the Attached Flyer for further details…
